Handmade Teacher Appreciation Cards

I decided I wanted to create handmade cards for my son's preschool teacher for Teacher Appreciation Day this year.

I went to my scrapbook supplies and came up with a raised floral design for the cover made from coordinating card stock from the Debbie Mum Baby Girl series that was 70% off at my local Joann's. I wanted something original for the inside, so I came up with the idea that his teacher had helped him to 'bloom', so I bought some premium perennial seeds, created a pot on the inside of the card and put a flower with my son's picture in the middle across from it. On the leaves of the flower I wrote my sentiments.

It turned out really cute and she loved it!

Print your scrapbook pages at Costco!

If you don't have a large format color printer to print your 12 x 12 digi creations, log onto Costco's Photo Center and print your pages for $2.99. They also print 8 x 8 pages.

If you print your own 12 x 12 pages, I would love to know which printer you use!

Another leap of faith

Digital scrapbooking??? Who knew?

Although I have been traditionally scrapbooking for over ten years, and running a graphic design business for nine of the ten, I never heard of digital scrapbooking until recently. I came across it online when I was doing a search for free vector artwork. I investigated a link, then a few more, and I was completely blown away by the creativity and ingenuity of the blogs and websites I found! So, I had to try it! I downloaded a few freebies from Free Digital Scrapbooking, signed up for their newsletter and entered two of their June contests.

I had so much fun creating the entries, that I decided I wanted to start creating my own designs for the digital scrapbooking world. I know my experience as a graphic designer and my love of traditional scrapbooking and card making will help me make great graphics!

So, why a scrappy banana? It's pretty simple actually. I wanted something original and something that represented my personality. One of my childhood nick-names was "Joanna Banana", so I decided to call my blog the "Scrappy Banana".
